At the age of about 8 or so we moved into this old Victorian three family home. my mum just had an uneasy feeling about it, just a bad feeling.

the first few days was ok after a week we had these strange feelings of being watched and cold sections in the house. a week later my mother claimed to see the bed shake right in front of her soon after most of the pictures in the living room would be on the floor and some small furniture would be moved. then it became constant, soon the trash in the kitchen would be dumped all over the floor, kinda looked like a dog got ahold of it.

every morning would be something new, cabenet doors opened, lights still on, it just seemed to get worst and worst as the days and weeks came along. we moved out about 6 weeks after we moved in and nothing really happened like that again. this is what got me involved in the paranormal.

I really have no rational explanation for what happened and still try to find a reason. it all seems like the spirit or ghost in the home just didn’t want us there, looking back maybe it was trying to say ‘the longer you stay, the worst it’ll get’. anyways this was my encounter

Cemeteries are the final resting place for many, wandering souls. Sometimes these souls decide to live beyond the grave. These three cemeteries are the most haunted cemeteries in the United States.

1. Bachelor’s Grove Cemetary. Located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, this cemetery exists peacefully in the Rubio Woods.

At first glance, it looks like a small, unimportant cemetery. The chain link fence which once protected it from outsiders is broken, a big hole marring the protective metal. The cemetery itself is broken down, suffering from years of vandalism and trespassing. Some gravestones are dismantled.

Although this sounds like an innocent, unimportant cemetery, its past is shrouded in despair and death. A white, uninhabited pond exists in the northwest corner of the cemetery. Mob bosses used it as dumping grounds for their victims in the early 1900s.

The last burial in this cemetery was in the 1980s. They officially stopped burying the dead in the 1960s. Since that time, people have reported many sightings, making Bachelor’s Grove the most haunted cemetery in the United States. Many of those sightings are seen near the pond.

Sightings include a ghost called the White Lady. Clad in white, she roams the graves looking for her lost baby. Other sightings include a two-headed man and a ghost house. Bachelor’s Grove is truly the spookiest haunting grounds in the United States.

2. Old Western Burial Ground. Don’t let the name fool you — this cemetery is actually located in Baltimore, Maryland. The cemetery surrounds Baltimore’s Westminster Hall, with some dead souls lingering in its basement. The graves that exist outside of Westminster Hall tell spookier tales.

These historic grounds are the home of many perished souls, including the son of Francis Scott Key and the grandfather of James Buchanan. It is also the home to America’s greatest poet, Edgar Allen Poe. After his mysterious death in the 1800s, people talk of a ghost resembling the troubled poet. Catch is, he only appears on Poe’s birthday, January 19.

However, Poe’s ghost does no harm, just as the poet himself. He leaves a memento at his grave, three roses and a bottle of cognac.

Another ghost, believed to be the ghost of Leona Wellesley, resides here also. She died in a straight jacket, buried with the memento of her lunacy. She was a recognized lunatic, straight up until her death. She is still heard laughing manically at passer-byes.

Visitors are advised to take caution when visiting. This cemetery is filled with un-restful ghosts, ghosts that like causing mischief.

3. St. Louis Cemetery, No. 1. St. Louis Cemetery is one of the most famous cemeteries in the United States. Located on the corner of St. Louis and Basin Street, St. Louis Cemetery no. 1 is also the most spookiest.

This cemetery isn’t the home to no ordinary ghost. This cemetery is the home of Marie Laveau, the voodoo queen of New Orleans. Her remains lie in a tomb, marked with small x’s. Marie Laveau is not shy around strangers, and haunts people even in the day. Voodoo followers leave gifts of beads and dried bones at her tomb.

Marie Laveau was a legend in her time, using her voodoo to help enslaved and freed Africans. It’s rumored she lived for 100 years while still maintaining her youth. Voodoo practitioners today still go to her tomb for luck.

Laveau is not the only famous resident that resides here. Other famous residents include Homer Plessy (famous for the civil rights case Plessy versus Ferguson), Ernest N. Morial (the first African-American mayor of New Orleans) and Paul Morphy, American chess champion.

Although these ghosts stay in their graves, others do not. Led by Laveau, disturbed ghosts wreck havoc on their visitors, warning them to leave.

This makes St. Louis Cemetary no. 1 the scariest cemetery to visit in the Creole state. Be warned when entering this cemetery. They might go after you too.

At first I thought that I was dreaming so I pinched myself. Nothing. I pinched myself again. Same as before. Then I new I wasn’t dreaming.

I had just woken up from a nightmare. I had dreamt that my parents died in a house fire.

There was a man at the end of my bed all dressed in black with a pale face. He had a distinguished smile on his face, with abnormally sharp teeth. I closed my eyes for a while (about five seconds) and then I opened them. He was gone. I couldn’t get back to sleep, even though I was tired and it was 1 am.

In the morning at about 6 am it was still very dark. I told my mum what I had seen last night in the room. Of course we weren’t at home. We were staying the night in Bratislava (capital of Slovakia in eastern Europe).

She said she had heard a story exactly like mine on the internet but it was in the next room. Vlad Tepes had ruled this place (Slovakia) as a crowned prince in the 1500’s. He had also died right on the town square which I could see outside the window.

I looked down and there he was. He waved and then disappeared into thin air. I felt a shocking pain in my neck. I ran to the mirror and saw two marks on my neck. I screamed and started to panic. My mum came running into the living room and she asked what I was making the noise for. I explained and she thought I was just crazy.

Do not enter the Destiny hotel. If you do, never enter room 148.

One time me and my friend were playing with a Ouija board. Now. I had done this before and wasn’t as scared as her, little did I know I would be terrified later on.

Me and her set up our Ouija board and began to ask questions. The ghost’s name was Cheryl. She was six years old and her father was 45. They were both there. The little girl was scared of the father because he had killed her, and he also died during the attempt to kill his daughter.

My friend began to feel uneasy and had changed seats. She pulled over one of our fold up chairs, but decided not to sit in it and came back over to me. (Trust me the chairs important.)

Later, after a few more questions, we asked where she was. The pointer had moved and pointed at the chair my friend had pulled over. So I got up and felt the chair. It was cold as ice (no joke). I lifted up the chair and there were tiny foot prints imbedded into the carpet.

We got very scared and went to put the board away, when it began to move on its own. It said “behind you”. we looked behind us only to find a tall man dressed in overall’s standing behind us banging on the door saying “Cheryl, it will only hurt for a minute…”

We got so scared we ran from the house. Ever since then we have heard our name being called by a man and a young girl saying, “Don’t worry it will only hurt for a minute”.

About two years ago my granddad passed away. I was so sad. I was only nine at the time. I’m now 11. He give me a doll house he had built himself, so I put it on top of my wardrobe

A couple of days later I saw this shadow near my wardrobe. It had long hair like a girl. Then I saw it again, but this time it had no hair. At first I just thought it was my shadow because I have always been scared of my shadow ever since being a little toddler.

Then I went to a mates sleepover and I told them about it. They thought I was messing about, but the next morning my mate Amy saw it. It couldn’t have been my shadow because it was standing at the top of the stairs as I was walking up.

I started to tell other people and it started to not came as often. I told my mum. She said, when you see it shout at me, so I did and my mum didn’t see anything. She said I was going weird.

A few days later I heard someone come down the stairs. I thought it was older sister or older brother. I was on the laptop in the front room when I heard it. It came down the stairs and opened the door and walked in. I screamed, it was just standing there.

My sister came in and said “what’s wrong” and I told her, but she didn’t believe me. I told my mum to come and this time she saw it. I told loads more people about it and it started to go away. I have not seen it since, but I’m sure it was my granddad checking on me. love you granddad miss you loads.

It happened when I got in a car accident five years ago. My leg was broke and I needed to use a wheelchair. But it was hard for me to go upstairs, so my mom decided that I will sleep in the living room for a while. She put my sofa bed in front of the kitchen door.

That night when I was half sleeping, I felt someone beside me. I couldn’t move my body because I was scared he would know I was awake. I prayed Holy Mary three times. Then I felt him leave.

In the morning, our maid always leaves the kitchen light on. By that time I was already awake. The kitchen door was half open, and at the back of the door, I saw an image. It was a shadow, I thought it was nothing. Maybe it was a visitor of my dad.

But then in a flash I remembered that there was nothing to hold that shadow and it was at the back of the door, six feet tall. Then I moved my body to see him more clearly, but he moved backward.

So I laid down, and he looked at me again. Even though I didn’t see his face, just a shadow, I knew he was looking at me. Then I just got a goose bump.

I shouted my maid’s name and after I shouted, he disappeared. My maid ran to me and asked what was wrong. Even my dad and mom panicked. I just told them that I saw someone. My dad looked in the kitchen but no one was there.

After that night, I never slept in our living room again..

When I was about four years old my mom married this guy named Ken (totally hate him) so we moved into the house my great grandmother left for her.

Before my great grandmother died, the house felt OK, but when we moved in something was out of the ordinary. About a month after we moved my cat, jasmine, got hit by a car while I was at my dad’s. I thought it was a joke. They buried her in the backyard near the woods. I started having nightmares.

My first nightmare goes kinda like this: I was having my whole 5th grade class over for a field trip to my house. Jasmine was all bloody and had two moles with her. They both had bloody teeth. (I had gotten my new cat that I now own by then). They wanted to kill my new cat Moonlight. They all jumped at me while I was running with my beloved cat and I woke up screaming. I didn’t notice I was crying and sweating.

My room, like any teenagers, was a mess, so I had a family birthday coming up and was wrapping presents in my room. All of a sudden the tissue paper starting bouncing around like a frog. I got freaked and told my mom, she said it’s probably just the meds.

The next night I couldn’t sleep so I got up to get a drink of water, and I felt like something was staring at me real hard so I turned around to see a black shadowy creature moving towards me. I started shouting all these things, I remember only few things that I said. I told it to go away and that it wasn’t welcome here. Mom ran downstairs and the next morning she told me that I was pale white and she found me in the kitchen, and I was solid.

The bloodiest day in the Civil War took place outside of a quiet town in the idyllic Marylandic landscape of Sharpsburg, Maryland. During one fateful day in September 1862 the North and the South brilliantly fought against one another, the South vowing to win the war. Led by General Robert E. Lee, the South shed the North’s blood, the North reciprocating. This became the bloodiest day in U.S. history, called the Battle of Antietam. Today the ghosts of this bloody day still linger on as haunted, bitter apparitions seeking revenge.

The History Behind Antietam
The Antietam Battlefield, located outside of Sharpsburg, Maryland, is the site of the bloodiest day in U.S. history. Over 23,000 soldiers died on this day in September 1862, and ultimately this battle ended in a draw.

On September 17, 1862, General Joseph Hooker fought against the Confederate army, led by General Robert E. Lee. Robert E. Lee wanted to conquer the North in one fell swoop, but ultimately resulted in a statewide massacre. They fought against each other for the entire day, each winning and losing ground in Maryland. Later in the day, union soldiers fought against confederate soldiers alongside a shallow road separating the North from the South, now aptly called Bloody Lane. The battle ended here, Robert E. Lee leaving his troops to die as they retreated away from Maryland. The wounded either died alongside the infamous Bloody Lane or died in makeshift hospitals, with only a small number of townspeople able to help the sick. To this day, Antietam — Bloody Lane in particular — is haunted with these departed souls, still waiting for Robert E. Lee to save them.

The History of Bloody Lane
Bloody Lane, a shallow road positioned between two small farms, was the site of the biggest massacre during the battle of Antietam. Confederate soldiers hunkered in this spot to shoot approaching Union soldiers. Later in the day, Union soldiers approached a ridge looking downward at Bloody Lane, shooting them off one by one. Legend says that there was pits of dead, decaying soliders, some pits reaching up to five feet of dead soldiers. One group, called the Irish Brigade, was mainly responsible for clearing out the confederate soldiers, while sacrificing their own. Now over 140 years later, the dead of Antietam’s Bloody Lane haunts the area.

The Angered Apparitions of Bloody Lane
There are a number of strange apparitions that still haunt Bloody Lane the houses that surround it:

- Some people report hearing strange sounds on Bloody Lane. One person reported hearing “Fa La La La” before it faded away. The Irish Brigade shouted “Fal La Bah La” before they attacked confederate soldiers on Bloody Lane. Coincidence?

- People also report hearing and smelling gunfire, although no physical source has been found.

- The Pry House, a farmhouse located in this area, was the final resting place of General Israel B. Richardson. He died here from wounds received in battle. A woman dressed in period clothing, presumably General Richardson’s wife, is often seen here. She often walks the steps of this house, usually staying in the second floor room, where her husband died. A group of contractors saw her ghostly figure in the window of the second story at one time, although the second story room had no floor.

- The Piper House, located around the battlefield as well, is the site of other apparitions as well. Although the current owners deny any paranormal activity, other guests have consistently reported hearing strange voices in the house, along with seeing faint ghosts in the hallways.

A Warning
Antietam is indeed haunted, and these ghosts aren’t afraid to approach newcomers to this area. These ghosts are dangerous — and out to get revenge — so be wary if you visit. You may become another victim of these Antietam ghosts. If you do visit, be respectful of the ghosts you do encounter. They will surely reciprocate.

According to legends, there was once “screaming skullss” that plagued English country homes. Eccentric families would keep the skulls of their deceased loved ones inside their homes as keepsakes. Not only was this an odd thing to do, but it was also frightening. There were times when the skulls would allegedly scream and disturb the peace of the household. Legend says that the spirits of the dead would return to haunt their living relatives through their skulls. This supposedly happened whenever the families neglected to fulfill the spirits’ dying wishes.

One such screaming skull case happened during the rule of Elizabeth I. In Yorkshire there lived a maiden named Anne Griffith who loved spending time at Burton Agnes Hall. She died an untimely death and as she lay on her death bed, she asked her sisters to keep her head in her beloved hall forever. They swore to her that they would, but they didn’t take her seriously and thought her unexpected request was only coming from her delirium. After she died, they didn’t keep their promise, and put all of her remains in the family vault. They came to regret this.

Shortly after Anne’s death, a terrible wailing — almost like a banshee wail, could be heard every single night. These horrific screams and wails kept the entire household up each night and disturbed them all greatly. The sisters finally consulted a priest, and he suggested that they fulfill their vow to Anne. As gruesome as it was, the family had to go inside the vault with the decaying smell in the air in order to find Anne’s remains. Strangely, Anne’s head was already detached from the rest of her body, so the family wouldn’t have to do the gruesome act of removing it themselves.

They finally took the head and placed it in Anne’s favorite hall like she asked on her deathbed. The screams were never heard again, and the family was able to finally get some peaceful sleep each night. As bizarre as this story is, there have been others like it over the centuries.

English screaming skulls are fascinating legends. Perhaps the “screaming” that the families “hear” is only their imaginations acting up through their own subconscious guilt. No matter what the truth is behind screaming skull legends (if there is any), they are truly interesting to hear about, and they make great campfire ghost stories.

You may not know it now but there could have been instances in your life when you actually talked to the dead and weren’t just aware that they were already spirits who crossed over to our dimension to visit or to do unfinished business. Sometimes too, they appear as angels out of nowhere just at the exact moment that you were feeling desperate and you needed help out of your rut.

Think about it. Who was that stranger who seemed to have appeared from out of the blue just when you’re just about ready to give up to help you change a flat tire in the middle of the road when no one has been stopping in the last hour?

Keeping an Open Mind
I think that one of the things that keep us from understanding the paranormal is that we are overcome by our fears of the unknown when in reality, there really isn’t anything to be scared about if only we try to understand the dynamics of this crossing of dimensions and meeting of our worlds.

While there have been many an instance where ghosts, spirits or simply, the dead have scared us out of our wits when we encounter them, it is more because of the images we have placed in our heads about them. Paranormal experts advise that when we encounter such entities, we should say a little prayer for them to help them move on.

If we are brave enough, we should even ask them what it is they need from us because they could be seeking help in fulfilling their unfinished business.

Deadly Encounters
When you feel the hairs on your neck raise for no visible reason, or you suddenly get goosebumps it could be because a spirit of the dead has crossed your path. If the goosebump lingers and you can’t seem to shake it off after ignoring it as best you could, it is more than likely that the spirit is standing close by perhaps watching what you’re doing or simply lingering about.

When this happens try to talk to the spirit and tell it not to scare you. Believe it or not, they do listen and they do understand where you’re coming from as much as they hope you’d understand too, where they are coming from.

Before you know it, you could already be having a conversation with someone you don’t see but you definitely know it’s there.
