EmailSt. Augustine, FL is often referred to as “The Nation’s Oldest City”, and thanks to all the ghostly experiences over the years, it’s apparently one of the nation’s most “haunted” cities. St. Augustine has have four centuries of history, so it’s no wonder so many ghosts continue to live on there.
The Lighthouse in St. Augustine has been known to be a paranormal hot spot, and ghosts have even appeared in pictures and videos taken there. The St. Augustine Lighthouse is over one hundred years old, and was built over top land that has seen a lot of tragic history. Visitors to St. Augustine have claimed to hear voices coming from the Lighthouse, and some employees have even claimed that whispers can be heard during the night.
Another haunted area of St. Augustine is the Hughenot Cemetary. Many popular ghost stories have been told about this cemetery, and paranormal investigators have spent time there. One of the ghosts said to haunt the Hughenot Cemetery is Judge John. B. Stickney, who was struck with the typhoid fever during a business trip to the city. He died immediately, and now his spirit is believed to live on at the cemetery.
Our Lady of La Leche Church is another haunted spot in St. Augustine. Many nuns have been buried on the grounds surrounding the church, and some are still believed to still be visiting the church. It’s believed thatthe first ever catholic mass in North America was held on these grounds where the church is built in 1565. There have been witnesses claiming to have seen a nun kneeling in the front of the church in prayer. As they walked toward the front of the chapel, she would always disappear. Others have seen her walking around the Mission grounds.
There have been many more tales of ghost sightings and hauntings in St. Augustine, Florida over the centuries, and perhaps they’ll be more for many centuries to come.
